Reimagined Mysticism: To Shoe a Horse in Felt
February 19 - March 20, 2026
Artists’ Reception, February 26, 2026
The Neiman Gallery is pleased to present, Reimagined Mysticism: To Shoe a Horse in Felt, an exhibition which explores the intersections of art, nature, and spirituality in a world where systems of visuality shape how we perceive and understand our surroundings.
The exhibition brings together works by current MFA students Timothy Bair, Francisco Javier Ramirez, and Jeannie Rhyu, alongside editions from the LeRoy Neiman Center by Ernesto Caivano, Kiki Smith, and Sarah Sze. Through their work, these artists examine the boundaries between object and image, memory and myth, offering reflections on the state of the world as we move toward an uncertain future.
A guiding thread runs through these works – myth, dreams, and symbols as ways of constructing meaning in a world on the brink. Drawing from observations of the natural and the banal, the artists engage with mysticism and fantasy to reimagine the familiar, creating narratives where imagination becomes a site of hope. Ernst Bloch’s ideas of hope expressed through dreams and fairytales resonate here, offering a sense of magic as a response to foreboding.
The exhibition ultimately gestures toward a new way of seeing, a space where endings and beginnings coexist. Through imaginative landscapes, fragmented symbols, and a re-enchantment of the everyday, these artists construct speculative futures that embrace uncertainty with wonder and resilience
