Tim Gardner

In the series, Blackout, Tim Gardner depicts the gestures of drunken partiers joking and sneering at the viewer or toasting with a beer bottle. Much like a snapshot, his drawings freeze the fleeting, often awkward, gestures of his disillusioned, young subjects. Although Gardner’s work tends toward the small-scale, the world he renders in his watercolor and gouache drawings are painstakingly complete.

Gardner (b. 1973) received a BFA from the University of Manitoba in 1996 and a MFA from Columbia University in 1999. He has exhibited his work in solo shows in New York City, Winnipeg and Venice and in numerous group exhibitions in the United States and Europe.
